Today is Nov 1, 2003. I have just ordered DSL. It has been available here in Los Trancos Woods at most a few days. I am about 600 feet from the SLC (Suburban Line Concentrator?) at the bottom of Ramona Road. I don’t know whether they will allocate new copper to my house or use existing wire probably the latter.
I decided to do the installation myself. I know some of the theory but am not mechanically handy; this is a bad combination. I ordered the “DSL Standard Plus Package” which provides “up to” 1.5 Mb/sec downstream and no permanent IP address. I am running Mac OS 10.3 and they only promise service up to 10.2. We shall see. I ordered the wireless version. I suppose that means I will need an 802.11b or g PC card. I needed that anyway.
This page specifies “SBC Yahoo DSL”. I don’t imagine that I will be using anything from Yahoo but that is the only way that I could find to get DSL service. The price is about $27/month for a one year commitment. I don’t have anything against Yahoo.
