I am 22 pages into Microcosm which is at once: What we know about E. coli is a substantial part of the biology that we know since E. coli has been the most convenient organism to study. This is obviously a self-reinforcing arrangement.

On page 22, under sources of energy, he says that the cells assemble batteries from chemicals. Batteries store energy—they do not create it!
