ASCII - EBCDIC Translation

LOOSE END: compare with standard in (_CACM), Nov. '68.

ASCII characters are represented in a byte with the high order bit zero.

All graphic characters translate to the equivalent graphic where one exists. Other characters:

EBCDIC ASCII

cent sign [ left square bracket

not sign ] right square bracket

vertical bar ]
circumflex

^ broken vertical bar ^ broken vertical bar

\ X'E0' backslash \ X'5C' backslash

EBCDIC newline translates to ASCII carriage return, line feed {but the reverse is not true}. EBCDIC characters which have no other translation translate to ASCII DEL.
